Genital Warts
CondylomaAcuminatum, or genital warts, is caused by certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV). Genital warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted infections. Genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area and may look like small, flesh-colored bumps or have a cauliflower-like appearance.
To detect the presence of warts, a gynecologist conducts a Pap test in order to view sample cells under microscope. Treatment can typically be applied directly to the skin, although over-the-counter wart removers are not recommended. A specific chemical treatment know as Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is effective in burning off warts but must only be applied by a gynecologist.
